This holy place for worship was discovered by Adi Shankaracharya, and now taken care by the local priests of the Makku Village. Housed on the top of the Chandranth Parvat, this holy place of worship divides the water of the Alaknanda and Mandakini Rivers.

Trekking and camping- The trekking is one of the most prominent adventure activity done by the tourists. Even for the beginners the trek is easy grade level and is worth every penny. Pilgrimage- As it is evident by the name, the sacred Tungnath temple is the best bit of the trip.The foundation of Tungnath temple was laid by Arjuna, the third of the Pandava brothers. En route the trek, visit the holiness of 1000 year’s old Lord Shiva shrine whichis third amongst the Panch Kedar. Fortified with ancient North India architecture and magnificent artistic idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. During the season of winters, a blanket of snow covers the temple premises that is an inescapable picture for the eyes. The doors to this temple are open for the pilgrims during the summers at the end of April and shut in November.
Bird Watching and Sightseeing- While on the route to Tungnath, the outstanding exotic Himalayan birds are a treat to an admirer of natural habitat. Tungnath is a region with harmonious inhabitation of Himalayan Monal. In the winters you can also spot a Snow Partridge from a close sight. Some indigenous animals like Musk deer, rare finches, Golden Eagle, Bearded Vulture, etc. The region of Chopta is fenced with dense forest in the spring. You can spot many species of Rhododendron that spread a cheerfulred glow in the forest.

How to reach the Tungnath Temple:
RAILWAY STATION: Reach Haridwar via the connected railway station. The Haridwar railway station is at a distance of 225 km. The Rishikesh Railway station can also be opted for the nearby locations.
AIRWAYS: The Jolly Grant airport connects directly from Delhi and hence is accessible and convenient enough. Private as well as public transport are easily available to reach Chopta or Sari. There are around 2 to 3 routes to reach Tungnath via Chopta. One can choose from any of best options.
Mandatory tips for trekking in Tungnath:
Some expert prep talk is very necessary before any new adventure. Here are some tips to remember while the trek-
- Carry plenty of water, trekking boots, warm clothes, raincoat, and sunscreen, along with prescribed medications (if any). First- aid kit will be provided in handy.
- Light snacks to crunch on when required. E.g.- glucose biscuits, chocolates, nuts, etc.
- You can bring a walking stick for balance and prevention from slipping.
- Carry your power banks and some cash as there aren’t any ATM machines up there.
- Clicking photographs are strictly prohibited in the temple premises.
- Follow the instructions of the trained guide allotted.
